NJASFAA Executive Council Meeting Minutes

Attended:  Jim Anderson, Lissa Anderson, Sharon Austin, Evelynne Blatt, Catherine Boscher-Murphy, Jo-Ann Craig, Kimber Decker, Donna Fojtlin, Adrienne Hynek, Dennis Levy, Woodrow Lewis, Helen Mikulak, Reggie Page, Carmen Panlilio, David Sheridan, Mark Singer, Karen Weber

 

The meeting was called to order at 9:40 a.m.  A quorum was established.

 

Motion to approve the September 23 Executive Council meeting minutes moved by Helen Mikulak; seconded by Mark Singer.  Minutes were approved unanimously by a voice vote.

 

Officer Reports:

 

President:  Carmen Panlilio

 

·        NJASFAA sent $500 to the American Red Cross to aid Hurricane Katrina victims.

·        Evelynne Blatt and Adrienne Hynek have been selected as NJASFAA representatives to attend the NASFAA Leadership Conference in March.

·        The College Goal Sunday Steering Committee met on October 14.  Our three-year Implementation Grant was approved.

·        An Executive Management Track workshop will be held on December 12.

 

Treasurer:  Helen Mikulak

 

·        The NJASFAA Balance Sheet and Profit & Loss Statement are current as of October 21.

·        College Goal Sunday has been added as a separate line item.

·        Motion to approve the Treasurer’s Report moved by Lissa Anderson; seconded by Mark Singer.  Treasurer’s Report was approved unanimously by a voice vote.

 

Committee Reports:

 

Conference:  Catherine Boscher-Murphy

 

·        The conference program was sent to the printer on Monday.

·        209 members are registered for the conference.

 

Development:  Kimber Decker

 

·        The association has received $79,600 in vendor support for the fall conference.  We have exceeded our budget by $19,600.

 

Electronic Initiatives:

 

·        We will add the 2004-2005 award recipients to our Web site.

 

Graduate and Professional Concerns:

 

·        The committee will develop a brochure for undergraduate students entitled Preparing for Graduate School.  This brochure will provide information on financial aid at the graduate level.

·        Gisele Joachim requested that members submit to her any publications, letters and/or documents that are specifically for graduate students.

 

Membership:  Adrienne Hynek

 

·        The association has 407 members.

 

Multicultural Concerns:  Woodrow Lewis

 

·        The committee will award six $500 scholarships targeted to students in Abbott school districts.  Scholarship applications will be available in January.

 

Newsletter/Magazine:  Lissa Anderson

 

·        The committee would like to have a banner on our Web site with timely updates.  

·        Our Journal will include many ads from vendors.

 

Public Relations:  Mark Singer

 

·        The committee is updating our brochure and will include information on College Goal Sunday.

 

Sunshine:  Evelynne Blatt

 

·        The welcome packet for new members will be mailed on Saturday.

 

Training and Professional Development:  Sharon Austin and Jo-Ann Craig

 

·        A loan workshop will be held on December 9 at Montclair State University.  It will include general loan information, alternative loan training and debt management information.

·        A Professional Judgment workshop will be held in January.

 

HESAA Update:

 

·        HESAA will provide high school counselor workshops in October.

·        The first NJACSA meeting will be held on October 24.

 

Old Business:

 

·        Our books have been given to Fylstra, Wright & Company for the audit.

 

Motion to adjourn moved by Helen Mikulak; seconded by Mark Singer and unanimously approved at 10:30 a.m.
