The meeting was called to order at 9:40 a.m. A quorum was established.
Motion to approve the January 27 Executive Council meeting minutes moved by Dennis Levy; seconded by Maribeth Quinn. Minutes, as amended, were approved unanimously by a voice vote.
Officer Reports:
President: Carmen Panlilio
· Carmen will send a letter to our current accounting firm notifying them that we will no longer use their services.
Past President: Maribeth Quinn
· Maribeth is recruiting members to run for Executive Council for 2006-2007, and is requesting nominations for the Distinguished Service awards. The election will be posted to our Web site on or about March 8.
· Maribeth received the EASFAA Long Range Strategic Plan and adapted it to NJASFAA. She distributed a 2004-2006 LRSP monitor, which lists the goals for each committee from 2004-2005. She asked committee chairs to review this document and before our next meeting, report back to her with the status of the goals.
· The Long Range Strategic Plan will be shared with 2005-2006 and 2006-2007 Executive Council members, and the Board of Directors.
· We will review the document at the Executive Council Retreat.
Committee Reports:
Awards and Recognition: Jean Hathaway
·
The
deadline to submit plaque information (names, etc.) to the printer is March 5.
·
Maribeth
is working on the Distinguished Service awards.
·
Carmen
must make her selections for the President's Award, the Young Leader Award and
Committee of the Year.
·
Debra
Wulff must give Jean the names and schools for the scholarship winners.
College Goal Sunday:
· College Goal Sunday was postponed because of inclement weather. Three sites have been rescheduled for February 19 and two sites for February 26.
· All high schools, and students who registered online, were notified of the new dates.
Conference:
· The spring conference will be held on April 5 at the Bridgewater Manor.
·
Instead
of a vendor area, a break room with cafe tables and chairs will be set up for
breakfast and the morning break. Vendors
can meet with clients in this space.
· The fall conference will be held November 6 to 8 at the Tropicana Hotel.
Development: Kimber Decker
· The association received $79,100 in vendor support for 2005-2006.
Leadership: John Iacovelli
· The institute will share with NJASFAA members information on leadership, through quotes, small articles on aspects of leadership and recommended books on the subject.
Multicultural Concerns: Woodrow Lewis
· The Multicultural Award application deadline is May 1.
· The application will be posted to our Web site.
· Woody will contact the Development Committee chair to inquire about an increase in the award amount for 2006-2007.
Newsletter/Magazine: Lissa Anderson
· The first issue of the magazine should be available by the end of February.
· Lissa would like to have flashing updates posted under Notes and News on our Web site.
·
We have
been given permission from NASFAA to reprint certain press releases in our
magazine and also to post on our Web site.
Non-Traditional Concerns: Donna Fojtlin
· Donna sent a letter to colleagues at computer schools inviting them to join the committee.
Novice Training: Gloria Green
· The committee will offer two Verification workshops this spring. The first workshop will be geared toward novices and will focus on individual tax returns. The second workshop will cover business tax returns.
· The Board of Directors suggested a training calendar for NJASFAA training events.
Public Relations: Mark Singer
· Mark has our revised brochures.
· The NJASFAA Hotline will be held February 19 to 24.
Scholarship:
· The first announcement for the scholarship has been mailed to institutions and posted on our Web site.
Training and Professional Development: Sharon Austin and Jo-Ann Craig
· The loan workshop held on February 10 was a success.
·
Two Verification workshops will be held in
April, one at

A Support Staff workshop will be held on April 7
at
HESAA Update: Francine Andrea
Fran informed us of items that were discussed at the HESAA Board meeting held last week.
· The Social Services Student Loan Redemption program has received about 300 applications.
· The board approved the posting of regulations on an obstetrics and gynecology loan redemption program.
· The board has appointed a financial advisor for the NJCLASS program.
Fran also informed us of items that were discussed at the February 14, 2006 NJACSA meeting.
·
OSRP management reviews will be performed at 15
institutions in
· HESAA will meet with 4-year state institutions on February 24 to discuss the NJSTARS II program. A separate meeting will be held with county colleges.
· HESAA is reviewing the New Jersey Change Form process.
EASFAA Update: Maribeth Quinn
· The next EASFAA Executive Council meeting will be held in the end of February.
Old Business:
·
Motion to change the officers’ terms to June 1
through May 31 from July 1 through June 30 moved by Mark Singer; seconded by
Maribeth Quinn. Motion carried
unanimously by a roll call vote.
·
This will be presented to membership for voting
at the spring conference.
New Business:
·
Paul Murray from Morgan Stanley discussed
investment options for our assets, including the $20,000 in our scholarship
fund.
Motion to adjourn moved by Mark Singer; seconded by Maribeth
Quinn and unanimously approved at 11:55 a.m.
