Get to Know Your Executive
Council
NJASFAA has always been an organization about people. During the course
of the year we will be highlighting members of NJASFAA’s Executive
Council. I hope you find these mini bios informative and learn a little bit
more about our colleagues throughout the state.

Why did you get into Aid?
I was offered a job in the Financial Aid Office
months after I graduated from my Alma Mater.
Why Did You Participate in
NJASFAA?
Its great to talk to colleagues and realize we are all in the
same boat.
How did you get to participate in
Executive Council?
I was made on offer I could not refuse.
Advice you would give to a new
Financial Aid Professional:
Get to know your colleagues not only at
other schools but also on your campus. You should know your Registrar, Bursar,
Director of Admissions, Dean of Students, etc. These are the people
who
will help you out when the going gets tough.

The Sinner by Tess Gerritsen |
Why did you get into Aid?
The position opened up. They were begging me to
take it. It seemed like a good idea at the time.
Why Did You Participate in
NJASFAA?
NJASFAA has a lot to offer the financial aid community. Coming
from the non-traditional sector it was a blessing to know that there
were others
out there that knew what they were doing and I could network off of them.
I am not sure I would have lasted in this position if it wasn’t for
some of the very knowledgeable people who belong to NJASFAA.
How did you get to participate in
Executive Council?
After about 6 months in the business I found the Non-Traditional
Concerns Committee when I attended a clock hour workshop. I started going
to their meetings regularly and I just sort of evolved into co-chairing
the committee with Bill Leach.
Advice you would give to a new
Financial Aid Professional:
Get involved. Go to the NJASFAA conferences & workshops.
Find people from similar types of schools and begin to network with them.
Latch on to someone who can mentor you. And definitely join a committee.

Not counting mysteries, I think it was "Abraham".
Good book; looks at Abraham from Christian, Jewish and Muslim perspectives. |
Why did you get into Aid?
Like helping people.
Why did you participate in
NJASFAA?
Great organization.
How did you get to participate in
Executive Council?
If you are a past president, and you are too old and
dumb to do anything else, they make you chair of the Constitution and By-Laws
committee.
This is NJASFAA’s way of saying you’ve been around too long.
Advice you would give to a new
Financial Aid Professional:
Take a broad view of the profession. Work
hard, volunteer for everything you can. Get active w/ professional
organizations. Don’t whine too much, it’s hard work.
